Introducing sefi: native governance token for the secret defi ecosystem

Mina

Casper

Setup the Local Developer Testnet

Open a terminal window and change to your project directory.
Then start SecretNetwork, labelled secretdev from here on:

docker run -it --rm \
 -p 26657:26657 -p 26656:26656 -p 1337:1337 \
 --name secretdev enigmampc/secret-network-sw-dev

NOTE: The secretdev docker container can be stopped by CTRL+C

At this point you’re running a local SecretNetwork full-node. Let’s connect to the container so we can view and manage the secret keys:

NOTE: In a new terminal

docker exec -it secretdev /bin/bash

The local blockchain has a couple of keys setup for you (similar to accounts if you’re familiar with Truffle Ganache). The keys are stored in the keyring backend, which makes it easier for local development and testing.

secretcli keys list --keyring-backend test

How do I change or remove my stake?

Once you’ve staked with a validator on Secret Network, you can choose to redelegate your coins to another validator or undelegate entirely.

Please be careful if you decide to undelegate your coins! You will stop earning rewards immediately and there is currently a 21 day unbonding period. That means you can’t move your undelegated coins for 21 days after you begin unbonding. (If you simply redelegate from one validator to another, you won’t face this restriction. However, you won’t be able to redelegate those coins for 21 days.)

Whether you are using Keplr, Puzzle, command line, or another option for staking your Secrets, there are ways to safely redelegate and undelegate as well. Those options are found in the same places where you originally selected your staking provider. You should familiarize yourself with all the features of whichever method you choose for managing your coins!

How can I run my own secret node?

Staking and participating in governance is exciting — but not as exciting as running your own secret node!

Secret nodes form the backbone of our network, securing computations and ensuring stability for applications that rely on Secret Network. Running your own secret node is one of the strongest ways you can support the project and help grow our ecosystem!

Be advised that running a node is not always simple. There are a lot of potential challenges, especially when you need to ensure your hardware is up-to-date and patched against vulnerabilities. Fortunately, our community (and in particular our Infrastructure Committee) is actively providing support to node operators and establishing best practices.

You can begin by reading our documentation for validators. Then, we encourage you to join the official Secret Chat or the official Secret Forum in order to receive support directly from experienced operators!

How much are the rewards for staking?

Calculating exact rewards can be challenging because there are many inputs to the equation. One input is network inflation — how many new SCRT are created each block? Another is the staking rate — what percentage of SCRT are currently being staked or delegated? Then there is the validator commission to consider, some network taxes, the number of blocks per year… it gets complicated!

Fortunately, community members are on the case. There are now a number of tools available for calculating staking returns. One popular tool is the Stake or Die! Rewards Calculator hosted by the Stake or Die! validator. While there are a number of different things in motion that could impact future staking returns, right now (as of October 2020) we expect annual staking returns for delegators to be between 30 and 35%.

A quick look at the calculator from the Stake or Die! team.

Our Take on Secret Network

Secret Network may just be one of the most important projects in the cryptocurrency space. This is because they have developed a protocol that has found that balance between transparency and privacy. To understand the significance of this, we must take a step back and consider the bigger picture.

If you want to preserve your privacy in the cryptocurrency space, how do you do it? Using a privacy coin like Monero and others which hide transaction histories and balances by choice or by default. Almost every other cryptocurrency has a completely public record of all transactions and balances.

The problem is that this privacy extreme is not ideal since transparency is necessary to get regulators and institutions on board. However, those same institutions and regulators are not too keen on entirely public blockchains either because they too want to be able to maintain some degree of privacy.

The brilliance of Secret Network is that its SCRT token is completely transparent whereas any actions involving Secret tokens or Secret Contracts are completely private. It is now possible to turn to regulators and say, “you can see how much money I put in and how much money I take out, but what I do with that money inside that network is none of your business”.

This degree of transparency should be enough to satisfy regulators and allows businesses to preserve their privacy as well. This has been the main selling point of Secret Network from the outset, and it is a value proposition that cannot be understated.

Just a few of Secret Network’s growing list of partners.

The Secret Network has also put in the work when it comes to development. It has a functioning product and an engaged community. This is no doubt thanks to the brilliance of Tor Bair whose specialty is quite literally community growth and marketing, something which is necessary for a project to succeed.

Although the tokenomics of SCRT are not entirely ideal, what Secret Network is looking to accomplish here goes far beyond price action. They have arguably created the template for the future of cryptocurrency privacy and transparency. As they continue to build bridges to other blockchains, they may just become the standard in this regard.

While you’re at it, enjoy this funky background image from the Secret Network website.

To finish off this article, enjoy this amazing quote from the Secret Network website FAQs. It is a useful one to keep in mind when someone asks you why privacy is so important if you have nothing to hide.

“A secret is something that you don’t want to share with everyone, but still want to share with people you choose to trust. A secret is something that you want to keep protected – not because it’s something bad, but because it’s something valuable.”

How can I participate in governance?

SCRT not only provides the ability to receive staking rewards, it also allows you to actively participate in governance of Secret Network! Validators and delegators vote on many important issues, including the inflation rate, community pool spending, and many other aspects of network governance. Here’s a brief introductory blog post explaining Secret Network governance.

Secret Network Governance
Learn how anyone can help determine and contribute to the future of the SecretNetwork with governance proposals! Hello, Secret Agents! Today, we’re focusing on a key aspect of the SecretNetwork: governance. As you may already know, our community of validators launched a blockchain[https://blog.enigma.co/the-enigma-mainnet-has-launched-3bd0d40fe80d…

Interchain Secret NFTs

Standards are critical for adoption, and NFTs are no exception! The first NFTs on Ethereum, Cryptopunks, were actually developed prior to the introduction of ERC-721, so they recently had to introduce a wrapper so they can be held in wallets and traded on exchanges like Rarible and OpenSea.

larvalabs.com/cryptopunks

Secret Network is aiming to get ahead of the game by developing the SNIP-721 standard now. We’re also considering how we can contribute to the Interchain NFT Working Group.

Interoperable NFT and metadata standards are necessary for tokenized digital resources to be virtually addressed, described, authenticated, controlled, or exchanged across blockchains and through the web. By presenting a set of canonical use cases and user stories, the InterNFT Working Group aims to identify technical requirements of developing standards for Interchain NFTs and metadata.

  • Interchain Standards for NFTs should provide an interoperable, standard way to own, authenticate and transact with non-fungible tokens across blockchain networks.
  • Interchain standards for NFT metadata should make information about the resources which are linked to NFTs machine-readable, machine understandable and verifiable, regardless of where this metadata is located, across blockchains, the web, or offline.

interNFT/documentation
Contribute to interNFT/documentation development by creating an account on GitHub.

GitHubinterNFT

Together, these standards will unlock the potential for NFTs and metadata to become as pervasive and interoperable as URLs are on the web. This will provide a significant renovation to the architecture and utility of the web, by providing stateful and verifiable representations of unique web resources.

Requirements of Interchain NFTs

Here are the necessary capabilities of Interchain NFTs: 1) Mintable, 2) Burnable, 3) Ownable, 4) Transferable, 5) Non-transferable, 6) Lockable, 7) Mutable, 8) Immutable, 9) Re-fungible, 10) Divisible, 11) Composable, 12) Conditional

We believe that privacy by default should be a requirement for experiential tokens, and our community is developing a standard approach for designing and building non-fungible tokens with programmable privacy features.

  • FLUX и VELO — фейковые копии реальных токенов;
  • MNEB — фишинговый токен, крадущий данные из кошелька человека;

Shitcoin Detective

SCRT Cryptocurrency

SCRT is the native coin of the Secret Network blockchain. It is used to for staking and governance on the Secret Network. SCRT has a theoretical initial supply of 150 million SCRT (more on this in a moment).

SCRT has an inflation rate of anywhere between 10-25% per year depending on what percentage of SCRT is being staked on the Secret Network (more stake, less inflation). This is to incentivize participation.

Secret Network SCRT ICO

There was no ICO for Secret Network’s SCRT token. Instead, holders of Enigma’s ERC-20 token, ENG, were able to send their ENG to a burn contract to mint an equivalent amount of SCRT.

Burning ENG to mint SCRT is done suing SecretSwap

This began shortly after the Secret Network main-net launched in February. The ability to burn ENG to mint SCRT will remain until the end of 2020, possibly later.

Notice the total supply of ENG and the balance in the Burn Address.

Given that the has a maximum supply of 150 million, this is the theoretical initial supply for SCRT. However, only about 62 million ENG have been burned so far and this number has remained more or less the same for the last few months. This corresponds to an “actual” initial supply of 62 million for the SCRT token.

SCRT Price Analysis

Although SCRT has been available since February, it did not begin trading until mid-September when it was listed on Binance. SCRT took a gradual plunge during its first two months of trading, falling from 70 cents USD to a low of 25 cents in early November.

Image via CoinMarketCap

Since November, SCRT has seen an impressive rally to over 70 cents and is now sitting at around 60 cents USD. Given that the Secret Network is only just starting to release its core technologies, SCRT could see some positive price action in the coming months (not financial advice).

Where to get SCRT cryptocurrency

If you are looking to get your hands on some SCRT, your best bet is Binance. Unfortunately, the trading volume is quite low, and the order books are not very deep.

Image via

You can instead buy ENG tokens and burn them for SCRT, though the trading volume for ENG is very low and it is not listed on any reputable exchanges.

SCRT cryptocurrency wallets

If you are looking for a place to store your SCRT, you currently have three options. The first is the Ledger Nano S and Ledger Nano X hardware wallets. The second is Math Wallet which is available for desktop and mobile.

The Keplr wallet is used by major Cosmos-based cryptocurrencies.

Finally, you have the , which is also used for staking on the Secret Network.

Genesis Distribution

The genesis distribution of SEFI is designed to ensure a fair and broad distribution of tokens to existing SecretSwap users, as well as other prominent communities across Secret Network and Ethereum.

As part of a fair genesis launch, portions of this distribution will be based on historical activity and current snapshots that are curated by members of the Secret community. To prevent this from being gamed, these snapshots will be held at unannounced times between the publication of this blog post and SEFI genesis (expected to be near the end of this month, March 2021). These proposed allocations are subject to change based on further analysis and feedback.

At genesis, 10% of all SEFI supply is proposed to be distributed as follows:

Certain Ethereum DeFi communities that are supported on the Secret Ethereum Bridge (25% of genesis): All communities with $10M+ TVL deposited on the bridge at the time of snapshot will be eligible for WSEFI distribution on Ethereum. Certain communities may be included irrespective of their TVL.

Existing stakeholders on Secret Network (75% of genesis in total):

  • SCRT stakers (35% of genesis): 35% of genesis SEFI tokens will be distributed to SCRT stakers who secure Secret Network, weighted by total amount staked. Staking SCRT helps to secure the underlying protocol, which in turn secures all Secret-based financial applications.
  • SecretSwap LPs pre-SEFI genesis (25% of genesis): 25% of genesis SEFI tokens will be allocated to LPs of SecretSwap, who have been serving the Secret Network community by providing liquidity at the expense of impermanent loss. The TVL calculation will be done over time since the inception of SecretSwap. This means the liquidity you provide today will increase your chances in genesis distribution for eligible pools. Please read on to determine which pools are eligible for rewards.
  • Secret Network — Ethereum bridge users (15% of genesis): 15% of genesis SEFI will be allocated for bridge participants who have bridged over $1000 (per asset) at the time of the snapshot. These rewards will be distributed based on a quadratic function to encourage wide distribution of SEFI among current bridge users. Bridge participation is extremely important for improving privacy guarantees of Secret Network. Note also that those who provide liquidity to WSCRT and bridge their LP tokens to Secret Network will also be eligible.
