Flexible Deployment Capabilities
The Orion Platform is designed to be easily deployed onto physical or virtual hosts. Customers can also deploy the Orion Platform and any of its modules onto Microsoft Azure via the Azure Marketplace and select either Microsoft SQL Server or Azure SQL Database (the Microsoft PaaS database service) as the Orion Database.
Watch SolarWinds product expert Sacha Dawes, Head Geek Thomas LaRock, and Microsoft Senior Cloud Advocate Pierre Roman discuss Azure and show how easy it is to deploy Orion Platform modules into Microsoft Azure via the Azure Marketplace. Or go to the Azure Marketplace now to deploy the Orion Platform and any of its modules, typically in 30 minutes.

«Building an infrastructure lineage, the same lineage shown in AppStack (available in the Orion platform) was awesome.»
Travel back in time
Some product names can be a bit ambiguous and need a bit of an explanation. Orion Maps doesn’t fit in this category. Like a crime scene, we often see things for how they are AFTER the crime has occurred. There may be a lot of evidence making it easier to solve the crime, or there may be little to no evidence, making it difficult. Perhaps the evidence has been tampered with and so on. Most likely every investigator would love the ability to travel back in time and see exactly what happened at the scene, who was there, etc.
It’s not much different in IT. When there’s an outage or disruption to a service, we witness the unpleasant after effects. It leaves us wondering what the root cause is, so we can make sure it doesn’t happen again. Often, it can be several things.
By aggregating data within a map, you can gain meaningful context and clarity to ensure the totality of what it takes to deliver a service is easily understood. This can also make it easier to interpret where problems exist, often expediting mean time to repair. Up until now, there has been no way to look at maps and the status of the elements within it historically. However, Orion Maps now makes this possible.
Through Orion Maps, tracking history can allow users to review the state of the service/environment prior to the outage, providing additional evidence and details critical in aiding root cause analysis. This functionality can also be combined with the power of PerfStack, built to provide users a one-click option to obtain contextually relevant performance data within a specific time frame.

IT Asset Management and ITIL
ITIL and asset management is a partnership ensuring you’re planning and managing the relationships between your IT assets and service tickets or requests. The ITIL framework is a set of best practices providing the foundation for better IT service management (ITSM). Incorporating the best practices of ITIL gives you the ability to manage your IT assets in real time with a full understanding of how incidents, problems, changes, and releases impact your assets through an integrated service desk. IT asset management solutions coupled with ITIL best practices reduce business risk by alerting IT of potential software security problems and threats.
The goals of ITIL and asset management software include:
- Acquiring appropriate IT assets while keeping costs low and benefits high
- Optimizing the use of each IT asset
- Disposing of IT assets when cost of maintaining them exceeds their benefits
- Providing information necessary for regulatory compliance, license renewal, and contract renewal
ITIL asset management allows for more effective incident and problem management, which can improve resolution rates and reduce resolution times. It also makes it easier to move, add, or change configurations by connecting service information to specific assets. A good asset management strategy makes it easier to track software licenses and warranties so that your business can avoid unnecessary repair charges or fines for breaching service level agreements (SLAs). This helps keep ITSM costs down.
Scalability To Take You Where You Need to Grow
The Orion Platform offers a single architecture that scales to manage the most complex and geographically dispersed IT environments.
SolarWinds scalability engines are designed to provide monitoring and management for large enterprise-class infrastructures. Additional polling engines allow you to scale up to 400,000 elements on a single Orion Platform instance while additional web servers scale the number of supported users. With Enterprise Operations Console (EOC), you can centralize and simplify data management of multiple instances in a single, consolidated view.
The High Availability option also helps ensure 24/7 availability for your Orion servers and pollers across subnets.

Microsoft Azure .
